Ok so I would just like to have a small huge, it’s gonna be huge rant about this little bit o’ unnecessary hate that took place last night on twitter about the lovely Penn Badgley. Here we go.

First of all I would just like to explain a little something called, the difference between actors and fictional characters, okay? So one day Penn Badgley thought to himself, ‘I want to be an actor.’ and then somewhere down the line he landed himself a role in a TV show, Gossip Girl. In this show about fictional people (as most TV shows are) he portrayed the character Dan Humphrey. Dan Humphrey is a product of fictional writing, he is by no means a real person. Penn Badgley however is. Penn may look like Dan Humphrey but that does not mean that they are in any way the same person. This does not mean Penn is at fault for the writing on Gossip Girl, (get your facts right, he actually disliked the writing most out of all the actors on the show). This does not, however mean that he was not grateful for the show, he has always, and still continues to be grateful for what it has done for him since and during the filming of this show.

So, next time you see ‘Dan Humphrey’ walking past you in the street or next time you decide you want to post hate to ‘Dan Humphrey’ on twitter, remember this; and please remember Dan Humphrey is not real. Penn Badgley is, he is a real person and much do I imagine that he does not care about a lot of those rather rude comments, he is still a person who doesn’t deserve to be hated upon, especially for things that are out of his control might I add.

After having read this, please remember Penn Badgley had no creative control over the writing of the show, so there is no need to take your hate on that subject out on him. Please remember he is an actor not a fictional character, and therefore not in any means Dan Humphrey. Please also remember this final and most important thing; no matter what your feelings are regarding, Gossip Girl, Dan Humphrey or how many roles he has been in since Gossip Girl ended (quite a few actually, please check your facts) what’s on the inside and how he is as a person and a human being is the most important thing. And for that I think he’s a pretty excellent one.
